I’ve seen a lot of talk about individuals quitting their day job to become Entrepreneurs and I think it’s AWESOME! I just want YOU to understand that it isn’t easy being a full-time entrepreneur and those walking in their purpose right now can tell you this. If you quit your job, you will no longer have that sense of security. Although nothing is secure, people usually feel as though a 9-5 is more secure than entrepreneurship. I am still employed at my day job because I love what I do, finally. I love moving up the corporate ladder and I incorporate my passion into my work every day. I incorporate my passion, which is improving processes and fixing issues, by improving processes of every organization I have worked for and fixing scandals like I’m Olivia Pope. Olivia is my mentor in my head, from a business standpoint.

For example, I had a talk with the Chief Information Officer at my present employment on improving processes in another department. I reached out to him. I am nowhere near his level of experience, YET. However, I didn’t wait until he reached out to me. I didn’t follow the chain of command. You know why?

He knows nothing about my talent of being a “FIXER.” I had to POSITION myself to him. I did this because I want MORE in my career. It’s easy. It can be done. Release the fear. I love fixing everything and any way I can fix, I will find a way to get it done.  My passion is improving the processes other working women are doing and I love doing this because I am doing this every day. My business is growing and I am able to actually HELP other women. I would love to do this full-time, but my answer isn’t YES to all of the questions below. And the way my home, kids, and bank account is set up…well

Until that day comes when I quit my day job, I am perfectly OK with doing BOTH.

So far I only can answer a YES to 3 of these questions. Bummer.

  • Am I making enough MONEY CONSISTENTLY in my business to quit right now? (Enough money)

You will need to make sure you are making a consistent income in your business. It’s great if you have ONE outstanding LAUNCH of a product, but you need to make sure you can launch products, services, etc. consistently. Don’t determine your businesses’ future based off of one launch. You will need to keep this up if you want success and consistent income.

  • If my business fails (and we hope this NEVER happens), what is next for me?

YOU NEED A PLAN. Faith alone (which is bullet #4) is not ENOUGH. You will definitely need to KNOW where you want your business to go.

How do you want your vision to GROW? You want to have longevity. You want to have growth. Well, I know that’s what I want. Why start a get rich quick business, quit your day job, and 5 years from now you have nothing? No, let’s be smarter. You will quit one day, but let’s at least have your finances in order.

  •  Are my ducks in a row legally?

This is important. Very Important. Do you have an LLC for your business? Should you incorporate your business? Is your paperwork in order? These are other questions that you need to ask yourself. You don’t want to find yourself in a position where you are fighting a lawsuit and losing money. Contact the secretary of state office in your state to see about properly handling your business and completing a formation. Also, contact an attorney for any legal advice you may need. Most have free consultations.

  •  Is my faith on point x 100?

This is so important! If you’re not faithful, you will fail. I’m sure you have faith because you wouldn’t be even thinking about quitting, but You have to trust yourself. You have to trust your vision. You have to trust your beliefs. Many will doubt you, but it is how you react that will determine your success. It is how you react during the tough days of your business that will determine its longevity. Are you ready to handle the bad days? Are you ready to maybe go a month without a paycheck? Think about that…

  •  Is this truly my passion?

Are you truly passionate about this business? When you wake in the morning and you live in your passion you will feel so rewarded. You will feel as though you can take over the world. You want to do something that you LOVE. If you aren’t doing something you love, you will burn out EASILY. Trust me on this. In order to one day quit the job aren’t passionate about, you will need to be passionate about your business everyday to the fullest.

I want you to take these questions and really ask yourself are you ready to become a full fledged entrepreneur. You may not be ready now and that is perfectly OK. You may be ready in 6 months, 1 year, or even 5 years. The fact of the matter is that when you’re ready, you’re ready, and it doesn’t get any better than that.
